Groundhog Day

Objective:

  • Students kick or roll the ball into hoops. If they score, they take the hoop back to their team. The team with the most hoops at the end wins.

Set-up:

  • Use the grass field or spacious blacktop area

  • Set up cones to serve as starting lines for each team

  • Lay out hula hoops randomly about 10 yards away from the starting lines

  • Form 2-4 teams depending on class size and form a line at the starting cones

  • 2-4 soccer balls or other types of balls

How to Play:

  1. The first person in line will attempt to roll or kick the ball into any hula hoop

  2. If they make it, the student goes and picks up the hula hoop and takes it back to base with their ball

  3. If they miss, the student must retrieve the ball and pass/hand it off to the next person before returning to their line

  4. The team with the most hoops after 3-4 minutes wins the game or when all the hoops have been taken

Add Volcanoes

Inject excitement with 'tall cone' volcanoes! By successfully knocking one down, your team can steal hoops from rivals. This dramatic twist ensures that no team is ever truly out of the game, allowing for spectacular comebacks and thrilling finishes.

Progression:

  1. If the students were kicking the ball, have them now roll the ball instead. Or if students were rolling the ball, have them attempt to kick the ball into the hoop

  2. Students do 5 jumping jacks or other exercise before shooting

  3. Ask students to close their eyes before rolling the ball for more fun

  4. Students must roll the ball or kick the ball with their weak hand or foot
