Cats & Mice 2.0

Objective:

  • The "mice" players aim to gather as many "cheese" cones as possible and bring them back to their "safe zone" hula hoops without being tagged by the "cats."

  • The "cats" try to tag the mice, sending them back to the starting point.

Set-up:

  • Playing Area: A large, open space with clearly defined boundaries.

  • Safe Zones: Scatter hula hoops around the playing area to act as safe zones for the mice.

  • Cheese: Distribute cones (representing cheese) throughout the playing area.

  • Roles: Assign some players as "cats" and the rest as "mice."

How to Play:

  1. Start: All players begin at a designated starting point outside the playing area.

  2. Cheese Collection: When the game starts, the mice enter the playing area to collect cones (cheese).

    • Each cone collected earns one sticker.

    • Mice can only carry one cone at a time.

  3. Cat and Mouse Chase: Cats roam the playing area trying to tag the mice.

    • If a mouse is tagged, they must drop any collected cheese where they were tagged and return to the starting point.

  4. Safe Zones: Mice can temporarily take refuge in a hula hoop (safe zone) to avoid being tagged.

    • They cannot stay in the safe zone indefinitely (give them a time limit).

  5. End of Game:

    • The game ends after a set time or when all cones have been collected.

    • The mouse with the most pieces of cheese (cones) wins, or all players are rewarded based on their collected cones.

Variations:

  • Team Play: Have mice work in teams to collect cheese and protect each other from the cats.

  • Varying Speeds: Assign different speeds to cats and mice (e.g., cats are faster, but mice can crawl under obstacles).

  • Limited Safe Zones: Reduce the number of hula hoops to increase the challenge for the mice.

Additional Notes:

  • Safety First: Ensure gentle tagging and a clear playing area.

  • Fairness: Rotate roles so everyone can be a cat and a mouse.

  • Learning & Fun: This game combines physical activity with counting, strategy, and teamwork.
