Candy Land

Objective:

  • Students try to steal the Candy from the Candy Zone while the Redvine Soldiers in the Candy Zone attempt to stop them.

Set-up:

  • Playing Area: Define a large, rectangular playing area.

  • Team Zones: Create four "corner zones" using cones or markers to designate the starting point for each team.

  • Candy Zone: In the center of the playing area, create a designated "Candy Zone.” Place various pieces of "candy" (cones, domes, bean bags, etc.) around this zone.

  • Redvine Soldiers: Assign a few students to be "Redvine Soldiers." Equip them with pool noodles or bibs.

How to Play:

Teams: Divide students into four equal teams. Each team starts in their designated corner zone.

  1. The Heist: On the signal, one player from each team can attempt to run to the Candy Zone, grab a piece of "candy," and return to their team zone without being tagged by a Redvine Soldier.

  2. Tagging: Redvine Soldiers patrol the Candy Zone area and try to tag the "thieves" with their pool noodles or bibs.

  3. Consequences: If tagged, a "thief" must return to their team zone empty-handed. If they were carrying "candy," they must return it to the Candy Zone.

  4. Winning: The team with the most "candy" in their zone at the end of a designated time period wins.

Progression:

  1. Increase Difficulty: Add more Redvine Soldiers or reduce the size of the Candy Zone.

  2. Introduce Strategy: Allow teams to develop plans and strategies before each round.

  3. Teamwork: Students work in pairs, linking arms or holding hands to get the candy.

  4. Vary the "Candy": Use different sizes or types of objects to represent "candy," assigning different point values to each.

  5. Movements: Students have to bear crawl, or hop to get to the candy zone before they can stand up and move freely or hop to get to the candy zone before standing up and moving.

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure the playing area is safe and free of hazards.

  • Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and fair play.

  • Consider playing music to add to the excitement and energy.
