Tower Defense
Objective:
The objective is to move the ‘cannonball’ around the circle and strike the tower of cones in the middle.
Set-up:
Begin by placing 1 to 3 cones on the grass or blacktop. Next, create a circular playing area around the cones, using domes to mark a radius of 10+ yards. Finally, have one or two dodgeballs available.
Rounds:
Timed Rounds: Each round lasts 30 seconds. Play continues for the full 30 seconds, even if cones are knocked down until all cones are down or time expires.
OR
Set a timer: Before starting each round, decide on a set time limit (e.g., 1 minute, 2 minutes).
If the attackers knock down one tower before the time runs out, they win.
If the tower remains standing when the timer expires, the defender wins
How to Play:
Choose one student to be the "defender" and position them in the center, guarding the cone stack.
The remaining students become "attackers" and stand around the cones along the circular boundary.
Attackers must remain in their designated spots throughout the round.
Attackers pass the dodgeball(s) among themselves around the circle, looking for an opening to knock down the cone stack.
The defender can use their hands and feet to deflect incoming dodgeballs.
If the defender accidentally knocks down the cone stack, the attackers win the round.
Progression:
More Defenders: Add a second defender, and an additional dodgeball for more challenge.
All Touch The Ball: Implement a rule that requires every attacker to touch the ball before a throw can be made at the cone stack.
Tag Progression: If the tower defender tags the cannonball or an attacker holding it, that attacker is out and must recharge in a hula hoop for a time limit.
Variations:
Students have to throw the ball with their weak hand.
Students have to only throw under arm/over arm.
Attackers can only hold the ball for 3 seconds, therefore keeping the game moving.
If they drop the ball they must run to the recharge station.
