Olympic Basketball 3v3
Game
3v3 basketball is played on one half of a basketball court where two teams of three players compete. Both teams attack and defend the same hoop, depending on who has possession of the ball.
The winner is the team with the highest score at the end of 3 minutes or the first team to reach 21 points. The three‑point line in conventional basketball serves as the two-point line in 3v3 basketball, with shots made outside the line earning two points and those inside it one.
Although 3v3 games are shorter, 3v3 players need to demonstrate just as much flexibility, skill, and anticipation as 5v5 players, as well as arguably superior endurance.
Rules
After making baskets or turnovers, play resumes immediately without checking the ball.
Checking the Ball: After a made basket or change of possession, the defensive team must take the ball beyond the arc before resuming play. They then "check" the ball by passing it to the offensive player at the top of the key.
Out of Bounds: If the ball goes out of bounds, possession is awarded to the team that did not touch the ball last. Play resumes with a check-in from the top of the key.
Mini Games
Set up multiple teams of 3 players.
Each 3v3 game lasts for a duration of 3 minutes.
After each game, the winning team remains on the court to face the next team. However, if a team wins 3 consecutive games, they must step off the court to allow another team to play.
In the event of a tie, the team that has been on the court the longest is replaced by the challenging team.
Variations & Progressions
Play a tournament with 4 teams or more, each team playing each other, and points are awarded for winning games. The team with the most points, wins the Olympic Gold Medals.
