Battleships
Set-Up
Set up two squares on the playground using either chalk or lines—place dodgeballs on cones within each square.
Remind students not to throw the ball at people’s heads and any other safety issues when using the dodgeballs.
How to Play
Form two teams, and have one student from each team stand inside one of the squares. The remaining students stand in a line behind their respective teammates.
Initiate the game with two students positioned at the back of each square, designated as 'Battleships.' Upon the coach's signal, these students swiftly grab dodgeballs (referred to as 'cannonballs') and aim to hit the opposing student.
If a player is successfully hit, the other team earns a point.
After the throw, both players rotate to the back of their team's line. The next two players in line step forward to take their place in the battleship.
During the throw, the targeted player can choose to dodge, catch, or use another dodgeball to deflect the incoming throw. If the ball passes without hitting the player, the teammates behind them must quickly retrieve the ball and return it to their teammate.
You can duplicate the game so that more students can play.
Variations & Progressions
Introduce time limits to add urgency to the game.
Start the students facing the opposite direction for a different starting challenge.
