Runners, Taggers, Free’ers

Set-Up

Divide the group into thirds: ‘Taggers’ / ‘Runners’ / ‘Free’ers.’

Taggers - They will run around the area, only attempting to tag the runners.

Runners – Try to avoid the taggers who, on being tagged, must freeze and assume a catching position.

Free’ers – Run around dribbling the basketball and identify who has been tagged in the catching position. They throw their ball to the catcher or make a bounce pass, who must try and throw it back. The free’er then identifies a new player to release.

Students rotate roles after a few minutes.

How to Play

The Taggers try to tag ALL the Runners within a time limit. The Free’ers try to free the students who are tagged and unfreeze them by making a thrown or bounce pass.

Variation

You can make the frozen runner score a basket before they are free.
