The Floor Is Lava
Set-Up
Lay flat discs in a random pattern. Space them out depending on the age group. The older the grade, the bigger the spaces between discs.
Use could use chalk to draw spots or circles on concrete at home.
Before You Start:
Demonstrate how to avoid contact with each other.
Students should be able to repeat all rules and signals.
Have students line up in a straight line.
How to Play
Tell the story of the volcano that has erupted, and all the students have to get escape the town through the lava over the stepping stones.
One at a time, each student should run, hop, or jump through over the discs.
Once a player has made it safely have them line up at the end. If a student misses a disc they go back to the end of the line and wait to try again.
The game finishes once everyone has made it across the lava safely.
Variation
Please bean bags in the lava as ‘Treasure’ at the side of the discs. Students can try to collect one piece of treasure each go.
(You could use any small objects as the treasure)
Then place a bin or hoop at the end of the line of discs where the students can throw their treasure to receive one point.
