Splat Ball

Game Explained

Space:
Students stay in the marked area. A field you use for a game will broadly be applicable.

Task:
Half the participants have the ball at their feet. Half have it in their hands. The game lasts 1 minute, with the idea to protect your ball and stay in the area. The players with the ball in their hands are trying to touch their ball onto yours. You also pick the ball up if you dribble out of the area. Play multiple rounds.

Equipment:
Ball for all participants.

People:
Everybody in.

Outcomes –Travel with the ball, retaining the ball through shielding and hiding the ball, releasing the ball from pressure (see variations)

Variations/ Progressions

  1. Space: Adjust area to suit numbers/abilities. E.g., Smaller space makes it harder for the minnows.

  2. Task:  Add boxes or dots as temporary safe zones. You can play an elimination version. You can play a 2v2 version. Where two splatters have the ball in their hands and two players have one ball between them, trying to keep it away from the splatters and allowed to pass it between themselves to do this

  3. Equipment: Use cones/dots to mark the minnow’s safe areas.

  4. People:  Challenge the more able players to go near a splatter and protect their ball.
