Coconut Shy
Game Explained
Space:
Students stay in marked area. Shorten the field you used for a game and add a centre line.
Task:
Two teams. Teams try to knock the other teams coconuts off. Winning team is the team that knocks all the coconuts off and/or the team that has knocked the most off first. Players cannot cross the centreline. Players can block, to save there coconuts but cannot use their hands to do this.
Equipment:
Balls are placed on the two back lines of equal number, resting on cones. Placeenoughballsin middle line so that about two thirds of the participants could have a ball at anyone time. Use dots to mark the centre line where possible
People:
All participants split into two teams
Outcomes –Ball striking and tracking, blocking, controlling a moving ball.
Variations/ Progressions
Space: Adjust area to suit numbers/abilities. E.g. Shorter distances will likely bring more success initially.
Task: Gates can be used instead of balls on a cone as targets. If playing a timed game bonus points can be awarded if you have more balls on the opposition side than they do on yours. Eg.if you are using 12 balls and after three minutes there are 7 on the blues side and 5 on the yellow, the yellows receive the bonus point. This encourages the players to control and release the ball at the targets quickly.
